Its just scary that after all these years they might consider the case abandoned if you don't receive the damn FP letter. Some guys didn't even get the receipts yet. I feel for those...
P.S.: Anybody got the case closed because they missed the FP appointment ? Is there a way to reopen it ?

My case was transferred to local office of Los Angeles, CA. I received a note saying on Dec 7th it was transferred to expedite the processing and they (LA office) will let me know when decision is made.
Current processing date for I-485 is August 19th. Does that mean that when they reach Dec 7th they will process my case regardless of my PD(which is June 05)?

Can you eloborate more on this? My understanding is that once you use EAD, H1 is gone for good. And particularly How one can revert back to H1 if EAD is used to join different employer?
This I think comes from AC21 regulations as well as one of the AC21 memos that were released. It mentions that a person can get H1 beyond 6 years even though they are not maitaining the H status as long as they can prove that their GC is pending . This may include pending I-485. I think the memo says that person need not maintain H status to get extension beyond 6 years without being counted against quota.
I think the H1 can be filed but since you are on EAD, you will not get I-94. This means that you will need to go out and get the H1 stamped and re-enter to get back on H status.
Again, various attorneys differ on this too. So consult few good attorneys for this would be good idea.

It is my turn to receive the "Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident" today. My depenedents are yet to receive this mail. This forum, Immigration-law, Immigration portal by Rajiv Khanna and many other immigration lawyers' websites like Murthy's etc were very useful to understand the immigration laws.
I did everything myself (EB2-NIW - India) - I140, I485, AP and EAD and my PD (I140 RD) and I485 RD are 08-30-2005.
I did make a one time conribution of $100.00 to IV.

He was not in support of IV and was under a strong feeling that a bunch of immigrants are wasting precious time and money. But now he seems to change his stance and has stepped into IV and has become a member. He is very helpful in terms of his skills and willingness to share his knowledge and help people.
He does audit to a lot of h1b dependent employers and has direct influence and can strongly recommend them to contribute for this cause. Most of his analysis about patterns of visa distribution comee out as expected but in recent times there were instances where his analysis went wrong too.

AP expiry doesn't mean out of status. If paroled into US and the I-485 is in process means no problem.
But if you are on EAD and not renewed EAD means, you can't work till you have received a new EAD.
AP need only going abroad. IT IS BETTER TO HAVE IN HAND, FOR USING AN EMERGENCY TRAVEL.

Appointment at Mumbai consulate can take forever. Recently my wife and I went for h1 stamping. For me it took 2.5 hours, for my wife, about 5 hours. It will take you at least an hour to get from the consulate to the airport. I would strongly recommend that you take either a late evening flight or next day. That way you can try to pick up the passport the same day too.
Usually I get my Visa stamped in Chennai. I have enough info to survive in Chennai.
This time it is not going to help much as I am going to Mumbai. It is a pain from the first step. I finally got the appointment for 10th Dec. I have to have some body hand deliver documents there in India..Oh well..
I have the appointment at 9:30 AM and was planning to fly out of Mumbai Airport same day at 1:30 PM. Now it looks very ambitious! What do you think? :confused:
I have no idea about lodging near consulate. I tried my luck near the airport many times. It wasn't pretty.
Any recommendation on Hotels and area near consulate ? I am not going near Five star / Rs 10,000 per day.

This does not give you EAD status. It is just a pre-registration. EAD is given at actual I-485 filing and not at pre - registration.
And this rule has been discussed by USCIS over for few years, but never implemented. And implementing it only adds one more additional step to the journey, with no EAD benefits.

Since your wife is the primary applicant as you mentioned I dont think you need to wait for 180 days. Your employer is no way concerened with your EAD/ GC. But in case both you and your wife are working for same H1 employer then you moving might ring alarm bells for him but in case 180 days are already over then there is not much he can do.
